This is really a fairy tale in that readers are advised to suspend all disbelief before turning to Page One. That said, it is a lovely easy-to-read journey through disaster and rehabilitation, combining a three-handkerchief tearjerker with laugh-out-loud comic relief!Roel, the protagonist, is a surgeon who wants to stop practicing. He is passing through town for a fellow-doctor's wedding when there is a terrible accident. Roel is dragged into the operating room kicking and screaming where he, of course, does a bang-up job on a critically injured boy and a young woman and manages to fall in love with the latter before the night is over.
From there it is a matter of love lost and regained, patient rehab, and doctor rehab once we learn why Roel wants to give up medicine. We also learn what Roel has against nuns whom he calls penguins - often to their faces, and how he can bring the gloomiest of hospitals to life with his pranks. In brief: a delightful light read!

I loved the fact that his disability did not get the better of him. P. D. Miller should be proud of this beautiful story!
I loved this book. It will make you laugh and cry. I absolutely loved Roel and his relationship with The Penguins. Very funny. This is a great story of love and the importance of not only making but keeping promises. I will be reading more by this author. Thanks for the great journey.
